Course Description
This course presents students with techniques and concepts that are common to acrylic paintings; various brush strokes, variations in value, color mixing, compositional decisions and more. Thinking out of the box will be emphasized as a problem solving tool. We will also go over the important aspects of how to know "when to stop" .
Materials:
Graphite Pencil, PLEASE no mechanical pencils
Pencil Sharpener
Sketch Book: min. 8.5x11”
Kneaded Eraser
Water Container
Paper towels and or rags with bag for clean-up
Clothes protection
Neoprene or latex gloves - optional
Acrylic Matte Medium (This may be shared between family members)
Palette : Something with a lip works the best including lids from food containers, bring several.You can buy special palettes that have covers, get a large one.Paint:
Acrylic tube paint: CAUTION some of the brands & sets being sold are not suitable! Please get a name brand such as Liquitex or Golden (Basics or student grade is fine for starters). Try to void any paint which has ‘hue’ as part of it’s name but mixtures are changing so that may not be possible.
Colors: Crimson Red and Cadmium Red Medium, Magenta, Cyan,
Cadmium Yellow Medium and Cadmium Yellow Light, Mars
Black or Carbon Black, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Yellow Ocher,
Ultramarine Blue, a large tube of Titanium White. Other colors are optional.
Canvas Board, Canvas Paper or Mixed Media Paper: 2-3 minimum 8.5” x 11” minimum to begin withBrushes : Synthetic or made for acrylic: #10 or #12 flat , #6 or #8 flat or bright, #6 or #8 filbert, #4or #6 round , & a liner (small barrel long hairs) Sets are great. CAUTION brushes for watercolor are made from fine hair that are not the best for acrylics or oils and can be frustrating for a beginner.
