Class Description
This course presents students with the basic techniques and concepts that are common to watercolor painting. Students will have the opportunity to paint still life and figures as well as from photographs, animation and their own drawings and designs.
Students with more experience with watercolor will receive more complex and challenging ‘assignments’.

2B pencil, (school yellow) NO mechanical pencils please
Kneaded eraser
Water Container
Paper Towels and or rags with bag for clean-up
Clothes protection
Neoprene or latex gloves - optional
Watercolor palette -with Large rectangular areas for color mixing NOT the small round ones
Watercolor paper minimum 11x17, 140lb. Cold Press in a pad or larger sheets which we will cut into smaller sections.
A board, 14x20" (a few inches bigger in all directions than your paper) either wood or alligator board to stretch paper on
Packing tape Can be shared
Paint:
Basic tube sets, like Reeves brand are fine . Better brands are Holbein, Winsor-Newton, Grumbacker or Sennelier and are fine but also bring cyan, & magenta if not included in the set. White is not necessary. If you are individual tubes instead of a set, in addition to the magenta and cyan, get: cadmium red medium or permanent red, vermillion, cadmium yellow medium or permanent yellow deep, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, burnt umber, ultramarine blue, sap green or hookers green. You can get other colors as you go on.
Brushes :
Made for watercolor: are usually sable. Get one soft sable wash brush (broad and flat or very large round, #10 or #12 flat, #6 or #8 flat or bright, #6 or #8 filbert, #4 or #6 round , & a liner (small barrel with long hairs). Sets are fine.
