Class Description
This course is intended to give students a foundation for success and satisfaction for other art media of interest such as painting and sculpture.
This class is designed to help younger artists explore form and structure from observation, to draw what they see. Later they are encouraged to use their imagination through the use of line, shape, value and texture to create original compositions. Beginning with the simplest of shapes, skill building continues through learning to incorporate contour and classic drawing and shading techniques. Projects are based on subjects such as everyday items, animation favorites, landscape and inventive forms and may incorporate media such as charcoal. This course is intended to give students a foundation for success and satisfaction for other art media of interest such as painting and sculpture.
Materials
Graphite Pencils: 2B, 4,B 6B, 9B,
Graphite sticks in a variety of hardness, ie. 2B, 4,B 6B, 9B,
Ebony Pencil
Drawing paper appropriate for ink 11x17, minimum
Kneaded eraser
Blending Stumps or paper towels
Intermediate level students or those who have taken drawing before:
India or Dr. Martin’s Ink, one bottle sepia and one bottle black*
* Clothes protection is a must, this material does NOT wash out. Bottles can be shared in a group.
Drawing pen and a variety of nibs from fine to broad
Watercolor brushes: Rounds in 3 sizes from tiny to #10
