Acrylics Introduction

CLASS DESCRIPTION
Acrylics are a fun and versatile medium and a great place to start for anyone who wants to learn how to paint in general. We’ll Start the class all producing paintings from the same photograph of a good composition of the most common subjects: still life, Landscape, seascape etc. The instructor will demonstrate and help students learn the principle of acrylic painting brush strokes, color mixing, perspective and layering. Later in the course, students will choose their own photographic references and will learn how to enlarge and reproduce the composition onto canvas which they will then be able to paint.
Materials
Graphite Pencils: 2B,
Sketch Book: min. 8.5x11
Kneaded eraser
Palette or palette paper-a large plastic lid from a food container or a disposable plate also work well.
Water Container
Paper Towels and or rags with bag for clean-up
Clothes protection
Neoprene or latex gloves-optional
Acrylic matte medium.
Palette : Something with a lip works the best including lids from food containers, bring several.
Paint: CAUTION some of the sets being sold are not suitable. Get a name brand such as liquitex or Golden if possible. Master's Touch is fine
Colors: Crimson Red and Cadmium Red Medium, Magenta, Cadmium Yellow Medium and Cadmium Yellow Light, Sap Green, Mars Black or Carbon Black, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Yellow Ocher, Primary or Cyan Blue, a large tube of Titanium White. Other colors are optional.
Canvas Board, Canvas Paper or Mixed Media Paper: 2-3 minimum 8.5” x 11” minimum to begin with
Palette knife: these can be the plastic sets or you can use disposable dinnerware
Brushes : Synthetic or made for acrylic: #10 or #12 flat , #6 or #8 flat or bright, #6 or #8 filbert, #4or #6 round , & a liner (small barrel long hairs) Sets are great. CAUTION brushes for watercolor are made from fine hair that are not the best for acrylics or oils and can be frustrating for a beginner.
